They have been practicing hard with Mrs. Hopkins and are really excited to show their stuff! The showcase starts at 9:30. Hope to see you there!!

Happy Birthday Rose!

Jellyfish Research

We completed our insect non-fiction books that we have been working so hard on. They look great! In order for the kids to show all they had learned, they completed their own independent jellyfish research, and then turned their research into an informative jellyfish paper. I was so impressed with their hard work and how much they are capable of in only the first quarter....and by themselves! Go first graders!

Thanks Mrs. Husketh for your help!

Museum Field Trip

Our field trip the museum was great! We had so many great parent chaperones (thank you!) that made our walk and our time at the museum that much better! We were excited to see the insects that we had been studying up close, and were even more excited that we got to hold some of them!

Galen was pumped for the chrysalises and the Atlas Moth!

Parent chaperones, please send me any pictures you took of your group! I would like to have them for our end of year slideshow! Thanks!

Happy Birthday Marco!

Our Giant 3D Bug Diagram

We concluded our bug unit by creating a giant, 3D insect diagram, complete with compound eyes, flapping wings, and a movable wing case! We taped three boxes together and then the kids worked together to decoupage painted paper all over the boxes. We then painted stripes, and worked on creating the rest of the components like the legs and antennae. A little hot glue later, and the bug turned out great! Mrs. James wants to suspend it somewhere from the ceiling in the school so it looks like it's actually flying!

We're Going on a Bug Hunt!

We went on a bug hunt to try and catch some insects to study up close! We worked as table groups and were able to catch and observe them. We filled out our entomologist observations and sketched our bugs!
